New Release, Review & Giveaway ~ Awaken

HJ Daly
Awaken
Sword of Idis #2

~ BLURB ~

Two years later and Esa is still fighting her internal battles, as well as those who seek to destroy her growing power.

Sent on a mission to seek out new threats, Esa’s life is one fight after another with goblins, trolls, witches, and sorcerers to try and stop her. One night she is totally overcome by a terrifying nightmare of death on such a huge scale that it has her running for home. It is not something she can run from, and as a new power consumes her she truly understands what a monster really can achieve, but is the monster the creature before her or does it lie deep within her own soul?

~ REVIEW ~

This series truly shows how an author can grow book by book. I loved Pulse, but felt it needed a little more backstory and was left wanting to know more about the how and why. Awaken delivered all of this, and more as Esa is back, fighting to survive. Thankfully Rootu is still at her side, willing to risk everything and offers light relief with his pets and mischievous ways.

The book is an intriguing mix of action, adventure and fanasy, with a hint of romance, which kept me entertained and turning page after page. Whilst the battles continue and Esa's powers grow, she finds herself fighting an internal conflict, leaving her in doubt as to who to trust. This conflict leaves Esa more vulnerable to manipulation, and every side is willing to do whatever they can to obtain the outcome they desire. The characters, along with the writing, have developed since Pulse and I'm now even more attached to Esa, Rootu and Thomas since reading Awaken. I really can't wait to read more of this series - I really want to know the outcome of the ending and whether the romance will develop (can't say more without spoilers).

~ About the Author ~

HJ has always loved stories, and writing became a natural progression to reading. Reading with her own children and then at schools in a hope of capturing the hearts and minds of the young. It wasn’t always about writing though, during her late teens, HJ stepped up her Latin American dancing and travelled Europe.
