Real Ugly

~ Blurb ~

Turner Campbell is an asshole.
I f*cking hate him.
But I can't get enough either.
He sings like an angel and f*cks lik
e a devil.
If I could, I'd run away and never look back because to tell you the truth, I think this man might be the death of me.

Naomi Knox is a bitch.
I can't f*cking stand her.
But I can't stop thinking about her either.
She looks like an angel and plays like a devil.
If I could, I'd f*ck her good and forget all about her, but to tell you the truth, I think this woman might be my last saving grace.

~ Review ~

Your either going to love or hate this book! Admittedly, it took me a little while to get into the writing style and language used (I tend to read YA / paranormal), but if swearing, drugs, sex and real life doesn’t bother you then I would definitely give this series a try. Naomi and Turner are both completely messed up, and a therapist would be set for life having these two as their clients, but they still draw you in and I couldn’t help but start to love them, want a slightly less messed up life for them both. You’re likely to want to shout and scream at some of the characters, throw the book / kindle across the room and stamp your feet in places, but all this did was prove how engrossed I got into the book. A warning though, it does end in one hell of a cliff hanger.

First thing I did after finishing this book? Buy book 2, Get Bent, devoured it and I now feel much better about the cliff hanger at the end of Real Ugly. Thankfully Get Bent ends in a much better place for the reader.

Get Bent

~ Blurb ~

Naomi Knox is missing.
I don't even f*cking know whether she's dead or alive.
What I do know is that she's the air I need to breathe.
She's my redemption, an all consuming fire that burns in my blood.
And I'll do anything to find her. Anything. Even if it means the end for me.

& & &

Turner Campbell is searching.
But he has no f*cking clue what it is he's searching for.
There's darkness all around and enough secrets to choke.
There are angels, and there are devils. It's impossible to tell them apart.
Light needs to be shone on the truth, but there's no one left to hold the torch. The line between life and death is blurred, and the players are all thoroughly entrenched in the game. The question is: am I still one of them?

~ Review ~

Compared to Real Ugly this book seemed a little tamer, but that could just be because I had completely got used to the writers style by the time I started reading it.  This book was a complete surprise, and I had no idea where the story was leading, but was happy to go along for the ride and just went with it as Turner searched for Naomi.  As with Real Ugly, I was completely engrossed from start to finish, and although this book ended in a much better place, I’m still looking forward to the next instalment and hopefully getting some answers about who is behind it all.

Character Bio's

Naomi Knox is hardcore.  She has to be.  Growing up without parents will do that to a person, especially when you're subjected to the horrors only a special type of foster family can provide …  But she can play a mean guitar and she'll write music that'll make Beethoven weep in his grave.  Just don't ask about her dirty, little secrets.  Well, I suppose little isn't exactly the right word.  Huge.  Monstrous.  Looming.  Maybe those are better choices?

Turner is a special kind of guy.  He grew up without respect, so he demands it, even if it makes him come across as a bit of an asshole.  He's got piercings and tats for days, and a mouth with no filter.  If you're expecting wise words woven into his insults, you're looking in the wrong place.  Turner Campbell's searching; he just doesn't know what it is that he's searching for.  But he does have tattoos on his … well, you know.  Yep.  All over down there.  Bats and spider webs.  Kinda cool, right?

About the Author

C.M. Stunich was raised under a cover of fog in the area known simply as Eureka, CA. A mysterious place, this strange, arboreal land nursed Caitlin's (yes, that's her name!) desire to write strange fiction novels about wicked monsters, magical trains, and Nemean Lions (Google it!). She currently enjoys drag queens, having too many cats, and tribal bellydance.

Always a fan of the indie scene and 'sticking it to the man,' Ms. Stunich decided to take the road less traveled and forgo the traditional publishing route. You can be assured though that she received several rejections as to ensure her proper place in the world of writers before taking up a friend's offer to start a publishing company. Sarian Royal was born, and Ms. Stunich's books slowly transformed from mere baking chocolate to full blown tortes with hand sculpted fondant flowers.

C.M. is a writer obsessed with delivering the very best and scours her mind on a regular basis to select the most unusual stories for the outside world.

New Release, Review & Giveaway ~ Shadows Fall

Shadows FallTitle – Shadows Fall
Series – Others of Edenton 1.5
Author – Brandy L Rivers
Amethyst teaserGenre – Paranormal Fantasy

~ Blurb ~

Amethyst Lakes is a nymph with a problem. She left her ex-boyfriend when he started to smother her. Nothing she says seems to keep him away. Carl needs Amethyst more than he needs to breathe, but she just doesn’t get it. He’ll stop at nothing to make her stay. An old friend and teenage crush will keep her safe until Amethyst can decide how to deal with Carl once and for all.

A pretty little nymph, crazy stalker ex, a cocky mage, and a whole lot of trouble.

~ Review ~

I love this series, and Shadows Fall acts as a little fix whilst I'm waiting for Shadows of the Past to be released. I can't imagine being stalked is any fun, but what Amethyst has to do to get Carl to leave her alone would be even worse. Unfortunately, Carl is a low life and willing to do anything to get Amethyst back, including reporting her to the Silver Council for something she didn't do - thankfully Preston is on hand to help her out. This book leads you up to Amethyst moving to Edenton. Vividly descriptive and well written, I got to feel everything Amethyst went through and it easily drew me in completely.

This novelette gives you just enough to leave you wanting so much more from Amethyst's story, and the next book in the series cannot come quick enough. This could be read on its own, as an opening to the series, and would allow the reader to easily see the writing style of the author before reading either The Beginnings or In Too Deep.

Excerpts -
“Well if we do find one, we need to keep it earth bound,” I said, remembering my fight with Ira.
Chax looked at me questioningly.
“They heal super-fast in Hell. On earth, they barely heal, giving us the upper hand,” I explained.
“How do you know this?” Chax asked, his fork hovering in front of him and his eyes shooting daggers at me.
Trying to avoid it, I looked at Zurita and Caim and found them waiting for the explanation.
“The night I killed Ira, he shifted me to his place in Hell. That’s where I discovered that he could heal faster there.” I waited for Chax's outburst.
He looked like he was going to kill something, and in that moment I was pretty sure it was me.
“He shifted you to hell?” Chax asked again.
Annnd, here it comes.
I nodded and braced myself for impact. There was a moment of deathly silence, like those moments just before a bomb goes off. You watch it slowly fall to earth and you know that it’s going to go boom. This is that moment.
“You will never leave my side again!” The bomb exploded, and then jumped up and stormed out.
I looked at Caim and Zurita, and found their large eyes focused on me.
“Yeah, I was waiting for that,” I mumbled, and then took another bite.
Crap, so much for Zen moments. Chax needs to lighten up.
“Will you do it already?!” Thonyn yelled from somewhere.
“Indeed.” I replied smiling.
I knew they were struggling with her. Focusing, I poured my feelings into her. It was still strange and foreign, all of these feelings around her, and I was not sure how she would receive them. I opened up to her; I wanted her to feel what I could not tell her. That I admired her. That I am proud of her, regardless of her flaws. That she was magnificent in my eyes. But most of all, and I feared for this, I wanted her to feel my love for her. The moment I had her in my arms and felt her mouth against mine, I knew that I loved this stubborn girl with everything inside me. For her I, would slay all evil, and would travel to hell to ensure her safety.

Author Bio:

OL RamosYou would think that as an aspiring writer I could come up with something witty or interesting to say about myself. But the truth is, I mostly enjoy telling stories. It's through stories that we learn the world, learn about our history or traditions, and in doing that we learn about ourselves. Ever since I was a very young child, my only dream was to become an author one day. To touch people with my words. Hopefully entertain them, maybe even give them something to think about. I use my books to reach people I normally would never reach. The internet has given us a lot of tools to spread the written word now more than ever. In my life, I've done many things, from supervising sales for big, retail giants, to even being a deputy sheriff. You would think a person who had been shot at for a living would be brave enough to write a biography about themselves. Unfortunately no. I might be a writer right now, but one day I hope to be able to share my stories and experiences with many people. To be able to expand my globe of knowledge and share ideas with others, that's the dream and goal.

Re-Release & Review ~ Torn

Christine Hughes

Re-Released from Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing

~ Blurb ~

With the sudden, mysterious death of her father, Samantha discovers her life isn’t what it seems. Not only isn’t she the normal teenage girl she thought she was, Sam must now take her father’s place in the fight between two groups of fallen angels, the Faithful and the Exiled, in a race to save humanity. In addition to dealing with a devastating betrayal—and having feelings for someone she’s forbidden to love—Sam must also fight the growing darkness within her as she struggles to make a choice between fighting alongside the Faithful or succumbing to the temptation of the Exiled. Both sides require sacrifices Sam isn’t sure she can make.

~ Review ~

In a race to save humanity, fallen angels of both dark and light fight against each other.  Samantha is thrown into this world after her father dies and nothing will ever be the same for her again.  With so much being thrown at her in a short space of time, it’s hard for her to get her head together and the dark is just so much easier to follow.  It’s a very intriguing read, with a well thought out plot line and I loved the way the author managed to combine both dark and light within Samantha.  With the descriptive nature of the book and the use of flashbacks, no questions are left unanswered but leave you wanting so much more.  With plenty of action, adventure, betrayal, love and loss, this book will keep you gripped and turning page after page.

New Release ~ Rest Inn Peace

Bonnie Bernard

Rest Inn Peace

~ Blurb ~

Welcome to Rest Inn Peace - where life begins at the end of the road and murder is sometimes funny.

Cobra Carpenter has trouble with substance abuse, staying out of jail, and seeing things that aren’t really there. A big city boy, he’s been released from prison (again) just in time to inherit his dead grandmother’s inn on the outskirts of Yellowstone National Park. He has also just been granted full custody of his twelve year old kid, Zoe, whose only non-imaginary friend is a kleptomaniac hypochondriac who lives in fear of rabies and bacon.
Zoe inherited Cobra’s flair for seeing things that aren’t really there, and he is none too happy about it. To complicate matters, the inn’s manager, Regina Oxford, insists those imaginary things that aren’t really there…are really there; every dragon, fairy, zombie, talking animal, ghost, and even the creepy winking statue. This includes the imaginary creatures that live at Rest Inn Peace, and the ones who rent rooms by the night. Cobra hates the crazy inn and plans an escape. But where will he and Zoe go? The world outside is crumbling; people are hungry and desperate. Here in rural Broken Spur Valley, food is plentiful, water is fresh, and life is good. Well, it’s mostly good. There are, of course, those pesky murders in town…that started the day Cobra and Zoe moved in.

Pull off your shoes and traipse through a land of fairies, dragons, trolls, and an assortment of misfit humans. Rest Inn Peace is a charming bed and breakfast nestled in a magical grove, next to a cemetery packed with brain-starved zombies.

Oh, and a word to the wise; beware of cross-eyed flying lizards with an addiction to eggplant and cauliflower.

~ Review ~

This book is definitely unique, and I’m not sure any other author could come up with a story like this.  Right up until the very last page, I was still being shocked with the twists and turns and literally the last sentence made me think “WHAT??? NO!!!!!!!!”  Now, obviously, I need more from this story because I want to see where it’s going, and more importantly, who is still going to be alive at the end of it all – the author is definitely not afraid to kill off characters!  I loved the book and storyline from the very start, and just knew it wasn’t going to let me go until I turned the last page.  It’s just hilarious, and you won’t have any other option but to laugh out loud, wherever you are.  There’s strong language throughout the book, but you couldn’t have this story without it.  If you’ve read anything else by this author, then you’ll love this, if you haven’t, you’re in for a treat.

What did I learn?  Zombies can be good and go to church, magic is real – you just need to believe (ok, I knew that one), dragons love collecting stuff and yeti’s are diplomats that build bridges between all species.

One of my favourite quotes (which shows exactly what you’re letting yourself in for):
“How can I keep an eye on something I can’t even see?”  “Exactly”.  Reggie threw her hands up like it all made perfect sense.  “This conversation is stupid.”
